Committee structure

To organise how we make decisions, we have our committee structure. This has a number of meetings, committees and panels.

The full Council is the ultimate decision-making body and involves all 39 elected councillors. It agrees most of our larger policies such as council tax setting and the annual budget.

The Cabinet is made up of seven councillors, including the Leader and Deputy Leader, and makes key decisions and recommendations to the Council on how services are provided for local people. Its main responsibilities include monitoring the council budget, making day-to-day decisions on resources and forming partnerships with other organisations.

Our committees make decisions relating to specific areas of our work such as planning, licensing and leisure. Our panels help to develop council policies, examine Cabinet decisions and review issues affecting our residents and businesses.
